The margin for error is about ±5%. At 2.8:1 instead of 3:1, epoxy looks fine at 24 hours but stays tacky at 72 hours — that is ₹4,200 wasted on a 1.2 kg Clear Cast batch. At 3.2:1 it cures brittle and cracks under stress.
How Much Epoxy Resin Do I Need for a River Table?
1. Measure your table volume in litres (length × width × thickness in cm ÷ 1000), then multiply by 1.15 for waste. A 2×1 m table at 3 cm thick needs ~6.9 kg mixed resin — order 7.5 kg kit.
Waterproofing With Silcrete — and the ₹15,000 Mistake I Made
Most waterproofing in India sits on top of the concrete — cementitious coatings, bitumen sheets, brickbat coba. Water finds that gap within two or three monsoons. A 2-component epoxy bonds into the concrete instead, curing as one monolithic barrier with no interface to travel through.
The terrace I ruined in 2018
A Noida client had already paid for two rounds of cementitious waterproofing on a 3-storey terrace. Both failed inside one monsoon. I was eager to help and recommended a general-purpose floor coating I had in stock — it bonds, it seals, what could go wrong? The terrace held ponding water for 6–8 hours after heavy rain, and floor coating is not formulated for continuous immersion. It blistered within four months and peeled off in sheets the next monsoon. I stripped the whole 1,200 sq ft terrace, redid it properly in Silcrete, and ate the ₹15,000 material cost myself; the ₹22,000 of unbudgeted labour was nobody's fault but mine.
The lesson I have not forgotten: a floor coating resists spills and foot traffic. A waterproofing epoxy resists continuous water exposure, hydrostatic pressure and UV. What it actually costs
Material works out to roughly ₹38–45 per sq ft at 400 micron thickness. A complete project — surface preparation, primer, Silcrete and application labour — typically lands at ₹85–150 per sq ft, depending on surface condition, accessibility and location. Replacing a water-damaged concrete slab runs ₹500–800 per sq ft, so the epoxy pays for itself the first time it prevents one failure.
Two rules that decide whether the job survives. First, the substrate must read below 4% moisture on a moisture meter — epoxy will not bond to damp concrete, and we walk away from jobs the surface cannot take. Second, always use a compatible epoxy primer; skipping it saves ₹800–1,200 and risks delamination. For basement walls, Silcrete works as a negative-side barrier only if the wall is dry at the time of application — stop active ingress first with injection grouting, then let the wall dry.
