The margin for error is about ±5%. At 2.8:1 instead of 3:1, epoxy looks fine at 24 hours but stays tacky at 72 hours — that is ₹4,200 wasted on a 1.2 kg Clear Cast batch. At 3.2:1 it cures brittle and cracks under stress.
Three mix mistakes we see every week
Over-mixing. Stirring a 1.2 kg batch for longer than 3 minutes whips air into the resin, and those micro-bubbles do not rise out in a long pot life — they sit at the surface. Wrong hardener pairing. A 3:1 casting system needs its own 3:1 hardener; mixing a flooring hardener into a casting resin because "it's all epoxy" gives a rubbery cure that never passes 60% strength. Measuring by volume when the label says weight. Density shifts with temperature, so a 100 ml scoop at 35°C carries 4–5% less resin than the same scoop at 20°C — the 100:80 Lapox systems are the exception and say so on the label.
