Bondone Clear Cast — Crystal Clear Epoxy Resin for Art & Tables
The 300-minute pot life resin trusted by artists across India. No panic mixing. No bubbles. Just crystal clarity.
What is Bondone Clear Cast?
Bondone Clear Cast is what I recommend to 80% of artists who call me. Not because it's the only option — because the 300-minute pot life gives beginners room to breathe. Last month, a furniture maker in Kirti Nagar poured a 12kg river table in one go. No stress lines, no bubbles, crystal clear finish. He'd tried two other brands before. Both hardened before he could level the pour. 'This one actually gives me time to work,' he said. That's the difference between 50-minute pot life and 300-minute pot life. It's not subtle.
Manufactured by DCM Shriram under the Bondone® brand, this is an unfilled, low-viscosity epoxy system designed specifically for casting and encapsulation. I stock it in my Ghaziabad warehouse, and I've shipped it to artists in Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and even small towns where quality resins are hard to find.
Technical Specifications
Look, here's the thing — you need to know what you're working with. The TDS (Technical Data Sheet) reference for this system is HSCL/TDS/06 v01. Here are the numbers that matter when you're mixing:
| Mix Ratio (Resin:Hardener) | 3 : 1 by weight |
|---|---|
| Pot Life @ 25°C | 300 – 370 minutes |
| Pot Life @ 35°C | Approx. 180 minutes (drops significantly in heat) |
| Full Cure Time | 24 hours at 25°C |
| Clarity (APHA) | < 30 (You can read newspaper text through 50mm of cured resin) |
| Hardness (Shore D) | 75 – 80 |
| Shelf Life | 12 months from date of manufacture |
Honesty moment: I once lost a batch because I mixed it in a 38°C Delhi summer afternoon without accounting for the pot life drop. It gelled in the bucket before I could pour it. Beginners should budget 30% extra for first project waste — it's okay, that's how you learn.
Best Uses for Clear Cast
🌊 River Tables
The bread and butter for this resin. Deep pour capability lets you cast 50mm or more in a single pour without yellowing or cracking.
🎨 Art Casting
Perfect for encapsulating objects, pigments, and creating abstract sculptures. The low exotherm prevents heat damage to delicate items.
💍 Jewellery Making
While Lapox Ultra is more precise for intricate jewellery, Clear Cast works brilliantly for doming cabochons and larger pendant castings.
🍸 Bar Tops & Countertops
For surface coating (1-2mm), I usually suggest ClearLam CC. But if you want a thick, glass-like bar top with deep embedded objects, Clear Cast is the one.
NOT for: Outdoor furniture in direct sunlight (see Clear Cast UV Stable) or heavy industrial flooring (use Bondone Flowtop or Silcrete).
How Much Do You Need?
This is the #1 question I get on WhatsApp. Here's a simple way to calculate it:
At 6mm depth:
1.2kg kit covers approx. 0.1 sq.m (1 sq.ft)
Standard 4ft × 2ft river table:
You need 12kg to 15kg total (10-12 kits of 1.2kg, or one 12kg combo)
Formula:Length (m) × Width (m) × Depth (mm) × 1.1 = Kg required
The truth is, I always tell first-timers to buy one extra 1.2kg kit. Seal coat, leakage, uneven leveling — things happen. Better to have 1kg extra than a ruined table because you ran out midway.

Clear Cast vs Clear Cast UV Stable — Which One?
I get this question at least 5 times a day. If your piece lives indoors, away from direct window sunlight — stick with Clear Cast. If it's near a window, on a balcony, or inside a car — you need Clear Cast UV Stable.
UV Stable adds HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabilizers) that prevent the yellowing reaction. Regular Clear Cast will eventually amber under prolonged UV, no matter how good it is. For outdoor furniture displays or restaurant tables near glass facades, spend the extra ₹86 and get the UV stable variant. I've seen indoor pieces stay water-clear for years, and I've seen window-side tables yellow in 8 months. Check the UV Stable variant here →
How to Mix Bondone Clear Cast — Step by Step
I've taught hundreds of first-timers over video call. Here's the exact process:
- Measure accurately: 3 parts Resin, 1 part Hardener by weight. Kitchen scale works fine. Don't eyeball it.
- Mix slowly: For 2-3 minutes. Scrape the sides and bottom of the container. I cannot stress this enough — unmixed resin from the sides is the #1 cause of sticky spots.
- Don't whip: You're not making egg omelette. Slow, deliberate stirring avoids introducing air bubbles.
- Let it rest: Let the mixed resin sit for 5 minutes. Bubbles will rise to the top.
- Pour high and thin: Pour from a height in a thin stream. This stretches and pops surface bubbles. Then torch the surface lightly.
I made the mistake of whipping my first ever batch 7 years ago. Looked like frosted glass. Took me 3 days to sand it all off.

Frequently Asked Questions — Bondone Clear Cast
What is the mixing ratio of Bondone Clear Cast?
3 parts Resin to 1 part Hardener by weight. Use a weighing scale for best results. 100g Resin + 33.3g Hardener.
Can I pour a 2-inch thick river table in one go?
Yes. Clear Cast is formulated for deep pours up to 50mm (2 inches) without excessive exotherm. I still recommend pouring in 25mm layers for absolute perfection on expensive wood slabs.
Is Bondone Clear Cast food safe?
Once fully cured (24 hours), it is inert and safe for incidental food contact, like charcuterie boards or bar tops. It is not certified for direct prolonged food storage.
Why are there bubbles in my cured resin?
90% of the time, it's from aggressive mixing. The other 10% is from moisture in the wood or cold temperatures. Always warm your resin bottles in a water bath before mixing, and torch the surface after pouring.
How is Clear Cast different from ClearLam CC?
ClearLam CC is designed for thin surface coatings (1-2mm) and has a 45-60 minute pot life. Clear Cast is for deep casting (thick layers) with a 300-minute pot life. Do not use ClearLam for deep pours — it will overheat and crack.
What is the shelf life of Clear Cast?
12 months from manufacture date. Store in a cool, dry place. Hardener can crystallize in cold weather — just warm it up and it returns to liquid.
Does it yellow over time?
All epoxy resins amber slightly over years. Clear Cast uses advanced phenolic stabilizers, but for items in direct sunlight, I strongly recommend the UV Stable variant.
Can I use pigments and dyes with this resin?
Absolutely. Use epoxy-specific liquid pigments or alcohol inks. Avoid water-based acrylics unless they are completely dry, as moisture kills the cure.
