“Metalam System B is not resin art. It's not floor coating. It's a clear epoxy coating that turns ordinary metal, paper, and plastic items into glossy, protected merchandise. I supply it to gift manufacturers in Ghaziabad, sticker printers in Noida, and keychain makers in Faridabad. One buckle maker told me, ‘This dries so clear, our designs pop like never before.’ That's what Metalam does — it coats, not bonds. Different product, different buyer, different conversation entirely.”

What is Metalam System B?

Lapox Metalam‑B (by Atul Ltd) is a two‑component, ambient‑cure epoxy coating system. It consists of a clear, transparent resin and a clear, transparent hardener. When mixed in the correct ratio (100 parts resin to 50 parts hardener by weight) and applied thin, it forms a high‑gloss, optically clear protective layer on most surfaces — metals, glass, plastics, wood, paper, even natural stones. It's not a thick casting resin like Lapox Ultra; it's a surface coating designed to be spread with a brush, spatula, or dispensing bottle.

Honestly? Most people who walk into my warehouse asking for "epoxy" mean Clear Cast for river tables. But when someone says "buckle coating ke liye transparent epoxy chahiye," I know they need Metalam‑B. It's a completely different conversation. If you need deep casting resin instead, see Lapox Ultra.

How to Use Metalam System B

1. Surface Preparation

Degrease thoroughly with acetone, toluene, or trichloroethylene. Surface must be free of dirt, oil, grease, and moisture. Wipe with a clean cloth. Inadequate prep is the #1 cause of poor adhesion.

2. Mixing

Weigh resin and hardener at 100:50 by weight — use a digital scale, not volumetric estimates. Mix thoroughly for 2–3 minutes, scraping the sides. Pot life is only 20–35 minutes at 25°C. Mix only what you can apply immediately.

3. Application

Apply by brush, spatula, or dispensing bottle in a thin, even layer. The mix self-levels at 500–800 mPa·s viscosity. Use entire mixed batch within pot life — do not add unmixed components after mixing begins.

4. Curing

Cures at room temperature in ~24 hours. For faster results and optimum bond strength, cure at 40–60°C. Surface dry is 150–180 hours for a 200µm film; touch dry 230–260 hours. Do not disturb during cure.

Best Applications

Metal Gift Articles & Keychains

High‑gloss clear coating on buckles, metal keychains, and promotional metal products. Enhances appearance and protects against handling wear.

Paper Stickers & Laminates

Coats printed paper stickers for durability, water resistance, and a glossy, scratch‑resistant finish that keeps designs vibrant.

PVC & Plastics

Adheres reliably to PVC and many plastics, creating a transparent barrier that resists chemicals and moisture. Ideal for coating decorative plastic components.

Glass & Natural Stones

Clear coating on decorative glass articles, polished stones, and craft items. Provides a protective clear layer without yellowing or clouding.

Not for: Deep pouring, river tables, or industrial flooring. For those, see Lapox Ultra or Bondone Clear Cast.

Why Choose Metalam‑B Over Ordinary Coatings?

Many workshop varnishes and cheap “clear coats” either yellow over time, lack adhesion on metal, or can't handle moisture. Metalam‑B, on the other hand, is formulated by Atul Ltd — the same people who make Lapox Ultra industrial casting resin. It stays colour‑stable, gives a truly glossy finish, and adheres consistently to metal, glass, PVC, paper, and stone. I've seen keychain makers switch to Metalam because their previous clear coat started peeling after a few weeks of handling.

Another advantage: mixed viscosity is low enough to self‑level thin, but not so runny that it drips off vertical surfaces before it cures. And because both components are crystal clear, the final coating doesn't add any colour cast — essential for products where the original design must shine through.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the mixing ratio of Lapox Metalam‑B?
100 parts resin to 50 parts hardener by weight. Use a digital scale — volume estimates will ruin the cure.
Pot life is 20–35 minutes at 25°C for a 100g mass. This is not a slow‑cure system. Mix only what you can apply within 15 minutes to be safe.
It's a coating system, not a casting resin. You can coat craft items, decorative stones, and stickers. For deep pours or river tables, use Lapox Ultra or Bondone Clear Cast.
It is thermally stable for normal use conditions as per Atul's TDS. No extreme heat claims — see the official data sheet for specific thermal performance.
Shore D 60–65 after 24 hours. It has good flexibility and adhesion, with max 0.5% water absorption after 24h immersion.
Yes, it adheres well to glass and provides excellent optical clarity. Ideal for coating glass articles.
