Atul Metalam System B – Clear Epoxy Coating for Metal, PVC & Paper

This is not river table epoxy. It is not floor coating. It is a thin, high-gloss epoxy coating system designed for one thing: making metal gift articles, keychains, paper stickers, and PVC items look glossy and stay protected. Lapox Metalam-B by Atul Ltd cures to a crystal-clear, hard film with Shore D 60-65. Mix ratio is 100:50 by weight and pot life is just 20-35 minutes. As of July 2026, the 1.5 kg kit is ₹950 incl GST from our Ghaziabad warehouse. 7.5 kg bulk jerry cans also available at ₹3,600.

What is the difference between Metalam-B and regular casting epoxy?

Metalam-B is a thin coating system (500-800 mPa·s mix viscosity), not a casting resin. It is designed to be brushed or dispensed in thin films onto metal, PVC, paper, and glass. Casting resins like Lapox Ultra or Bondone Clear Cast are thick, slow-cure systems meant for deep pours. Metalam-B has a 20-35 minute pot life and dries to a hard glossy film with Shore D 60-65. It is sold to gift manufacturers, buckle makers, and sticker printers – not to river table artists.

How much does Atul Metalam System B cost in India?

Atul Metalam System B costs ₹950 for a 1.5 kg kit (incl GST) and ₹3,600 for a 7.5 kg jerry can, delivered PAN India from our Ghaziabad warehouse. Per-kg cost works out to ₹633 at the 1.5 kg pack and ₹480 at the 7.5 kg bulk pack. Shipping charges apply on all orders. UPI, bank transfer, or credit card invoice via Razorpay – no COD.

What is Metalam System B?

Lapox Metalam-B by Atul Ltd is a two-component, ambient-cure epoxy coating system. It consists of a clear, transparent resin and a clear, transparent hardener. When mixed at 100:50 by weight and applied as a thin film, it forms a high-gloss, optically clear protective layer on metals, glass, plastics, wood, paper stickers, and natural stones. It is not a thick casting resin – it is a surface coating designed to be spread with a brush, spatula, or dispensing bottle.

I supply this to gift manufacturers in Ghaziabad, sticker printers in Noida, and keychain makers in Faridabad. If you need deep casting resin instead, see Lapox Ultra or Bondone Clear Cast. For a full overview of all epoxy types available, visit our epoxy resin India guide.

Which Application Should You Use Metalam-B For? – Decision Table

Metalam-B is a thin-film coating system, not a casting resin. Pick your material below to see if it fits.

If you want to coat... Why Metalam-B works Best for Pack size
Metal gift articles, buckles, keychains High-gloss finish, excellent adhesion to metal surfaces, protects against handling wear and fingerprints Promotional products, corporate gifts, metal trophies 1.5kg ₹950
Paper stickers, labels, laminates Creates a durable waterproof coating, scratch-resistant, keeps printed colours vibrant without yellowing Sticker printers, packaging, decorative labels 1.5kg ₹950
PVC, plastics, and acrylic items Strong adhesion to PVC and many engineered plastics, transparent barrier against chemicals and moisture PVC nameplates, plastic badges, acrylic displays 1.5kg ₹950
Glass articles and natural stones Bonds reliably to glass, optically clear with no colour cast, protective layer without ambering Decorative glass, gemstones, polished stone coasters 1.5kg ₹950

Not for: Deep pouring, river tables, or industrial flooring. For those, see Lapox Ultra or Bondone Clear Cast.

Why Choose Metalam-B Over Ordinary Coatings?

Many workshop varnishes and cheap clear coats yellow over time, lack adhesion on metal, or cannot handle moisture. Metalam-B is formulated by Atul Ltd – the same company behind Lapox Ultra industrial casting resin. It stays colour-stable, delivers a genuine high-gloss finish, and adheres consistently to metal, glass, PVC, paper, and stone. I have seen keychain makers switch to Metalam because their previous clear coat started peeling after a few weeks of handling.

The mixed viscosity of 500-800 mPa·s is low enough to self-level in a thin film, but not so runny that it drips off vertical surfaces before curing. Because both components are crystal clear (resin APHA max 60, hardener Gardner max 1), the final coating adds no colour cast – essential when the original product design must shine through.

How to Use Metalam System B

1. Surface preparation: Degrease thoroughly with acetone, toluene, or trichloroethylene. Surface must be free of dirt, oil, grease, and moisture. Inadequate prep is the #1 cause of poor adhesion.

2. Mixing: Weigh resin and hardener at 100:50 by weight – use a digital scale, not volumetric estimates. Mix thoroughly for 2-3 minutes, scraping sides. Pot life is only 20-35 minutes at 25°C. Mix only what you can apply immediately.

3. Application: Apply by brush, spatula, or dispensing bottle in a thin, even layer. The mix self-levels at 500-800 mPa·s viscosity. Use the entire mixed batch within pot life – do not add unmixed components after mixing begins.

4. Curing: Cure at room temperature in ~24 hours. For faster results and optimum bond strength, cure at 40-60°C. Surface dry takes 150-180 hours and touch dry 230-260 hours for a 200µm film – plan your production schedule accordingly. Do not disturb during cure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the mixing ratio of Lapox Metalam-B?

100 parts resin to 50 parts hardener by weight. Use a digital scale – volume estimates will ruin the cure. Atul Ltd specifies this ratio in the official TDS.

How long do I have to work after mixing?

Pot life is 20-35 minutes at 25–C for a 100g mix. This is a fast system – mix only what you can apply within 15 minutes to be safe. At higher ambient temperatures, pot life shortens further.

Can Metalam-B be used for art or resin casting?

It is a coating system, not a casting resin. You can coat craft items, decorative stones, and stickers. For deep pours or river tables, use Lapox Ultra or Bondone Clear Cast.

What temperature can Metalam-B withstand?

It is thermally stable for normal use conditions per Atul TDS. For faster curing, heat to 40-60–C which also improves bond strength. Refer to the official data sheet for specific thermal performance limits.

How hard does Metalam-B get?

Shore D 60-65 after 24 hours. It has good flexibility and adhesion with max 0.5% water absorption after 24h immersion per ASTM D670-63.

Can I use Metalam-B on glass?

It adheres well to glass and provides excellent optical clarity. Ideal for coating glass articles and decorative glass items.

What packaging sizes are available?

Standard retail pack is 1.5 kg at ₹950 incl GST. 7.5 kg HDPE jerry cans available for bulk at ₹3,600. Custom packs on request for regular supply contracts.

How should I store Metalam-B?

Store between 2–C and 40–C in the original sealed container away from sunlight and humidity. Shelf life is 1 year per Atul TDS.
